Orientation
for New Vidyapith Parents
On Saturday, September 11, 2004, Vivekanada Vidyapith
hosted an orientation for the parents of the new students of Vidyapith.
The event began at 9:00am with the morning prayer which was led by
Vidyapith students. Mahendra Uncle welcomed all the parents and students.
Then he invited current Vidyapith students, Abhay Patel, Sheela Krishnan,
and Mansi Mehta, as well as alumnus Vivek Kocharlakota to talk about their
experiences as students of the Vidyapith and what appealed to them most
about its program. After that, Mahendra Uncle talked about the goal of the
Vidyapith and briefly described the activities of the Vidyapith. Vandana
Aunty then outlined the Vidyapith curriculum and introduced both the
Saturday and Sunday Vidyapith teachers who were present. She pointed out
that several students were on the waiting list to enroll in the Fall 2004
and that the Vidyapith had room to accommodate new students only on
Saturday. Then, the parents were led to different classrooms where they
had a chance to meet their children’s new teachers, as well as ask
questions. The new students, most of who were going into kindergarten,
first, and second grades, were warmly received by their new teachers and
future peers. By 12:00 the orientation of the parents and registration of
the new students ended and parents went home with their children who
eagerly awaited their first day of Vidyapith.
